Brostrom 90 Double Yellow Knife

May 13th, 2009

mic201m from knifeforums shared this striking custom made knife in the Scandinavian Knife Gallery and it looks great. Apparently he got the idea while sitting in a traffic jam – take another look and have a chuckle at the name, and the double yellow lines. Who knew they could inspire such a thing of beauty?

The blade is a 90×23mm Stefan Brostrom, and the handle is grey/yellow stab Box Elder. The overall length is 215mm. The scandi grind is a well loved and traditional bushcraft design. You can find some more great pics of this “Noh Pah King” knife on knifeforums.

Sadly I didn’t have a very large image to start with, so the higher res wallpapers have been scaled up, but I don’t think they’ve come out too badly in the end :)

Randall Made Model One Knife Wallpaper

March 10th, 2009

Randall Made Knives have become somewhat legendary. Perhaps it’s the history behind the knives, or maybe it’s the incredible wait-time on new orders – according to their FAQ, if you want to buy one now, you’ll be waiting until 2014 before it’s delivered. But whatever it is, Randall is one of the most respected, and well-known, custom knife makers out there.

Looking at this 7 inch stag handled Model 1 from Ken Lunde’s collection you can see why. Photo by Ken Lunde, used by permission, with thanks.

Allred Sculpted Folding Knife Picture

February 23rd, 2009

This is truly a piece of artwork from Allred Custom Knives. It won of “Best Folder” at the 2008 Chicago Custom Knife Show and you can see why. The elegant curves of the design combined with the highest quality materials make this folding knife a visual masterpiece. Utilising Hakkapelitta Damasteel and Blacklip Mother of Pearl, this custom knife is sheer elegance.

Because I don’t think you can appreciate the fine detail in the wallpaper thumbnail above, I’m including a closeup here to encourage you to click through to the hi-res desktop images. It’s worth it!

Kawasaki / Carter Japanese Folding Knife Picture

February 14th, 2009

Elvan Allred from allred knives posted this amazing picture of a japanese folding knife on KF and as soon as I saw it I just knew I had to feature it, it’s a striking  knife and excellently photograhed – many thanks to Elvan for allowing me to use it :) Elvan tells us that this unusual folder was started by Akihisa Kawasaki (url?) and finished by Fred Carter after Kawasaki’s death, making it a unique collaboration.

UPDATE: Fred has provided some more details in the comments – thanks!

T.A. DAVISON Gents Folding Knife Picture

January 27th, 2009

Another T.A. Davison custom folder desktop image for your viewing pleasure, this time with an acorn motif and excellent jigged bone scales. Todd started selling knives in 1981 and has now made over 400 folders; each one unique, each one oozing quality :) Kudos to the photographer too, they look great!

T.A. DAVISON Folder #401 Knife Picture

January 26th, 2009

I’ve been a fan of Todd Davison’s slip joint folders for quite some time now, having first seen them pop up quite often for sale at bladeforums (look for posts by bigal2me). This one is a real beauty, I don’t think anyone could look at this and not recognise the quality and skill that’s gone into it. You can see many more photos of Todd’s work and currently available items at his custom knives site. This one features a clip point blade with Mammoth Ivory scales.

Amber Balisong Knife Wallpaper

January 19th, 2009

Another guest wallpaper with kind permission of the balisong collector, this Terry Guinn amber bali is a really classy flipper. Although if it were mine it’d be a shelf queen for sure – I’d be terrified of slamming it into the floor!
