Kawasaki / Carter Japanese Folding Knife Picture

February 14th, 2009

Elvan Allred from allred knives posted this amazing picture of a japanese folding knife on KF and as soon as I saw it I just knew I had to feature it, it’s a striking  knife and excellently photograhed – many thanks to Elvan for allowing me to use it :) Elvan tells us that this unusual folder was started by Akihisa Kawasaki (url?) and finished by Fred Carter after Kawasaki’s death, making it a unique collaboration.

UPDATE: Fred has provided some more details in the comments – thanks!

The Kawasaki/Carter folder has desert ironwood handles, titanium frame, engraved 416ss pivot screws and blade made from Mr.Kawasakie’s own stainless called STH-24 which was made especially for him and was not available on the market. I think the writing on the blade is his name (I have had it read by several Japanese friends), the two lower figures may represent two fighting characters which appear on many of his blades. The blade is hollow ground on one side which is how he ground all of his blades. Currently the knife is not for sale. Hope this helps. Fred
